After many years in India, Julia finds herself in need of employment to help her ailing father. While she’d rather be in India, she is uniquely qualified to be a governess and after her first visit to Highland Hall, she realizes how much they really need her.
Her heart is slowly changed from desiring her own will to return to India to listening to God’s will for her to stay at Highland, despite all the trials there. She finds true friendship and yes love within its walls.
It took me a little while to get into this story, I didn’t like Julia right from the start and at times found her to be terribly pretentious for a missionary. She did grow on me as the story went on and I did love the ending. It reminded me a little of Sarah, Plain and Tall at the end and I cherish that sweet story. I liked that she stood up for her friends and cared enough about her father’s dream to make the attempt she did (I don’t want to give up too much). I certainly liked it enough to want to read the next novel, The Daughter of Highland Hall. I like Carrie’s writing and I liked the story itself very much.
