Words Unwritten

A few thoughts today from Terri Main.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” II Timothy 1.17.

As a writer, I set myself up for public criticism every time I publish something. And if I publish enough, I will get my share of bad reviews. Some of them are deserved. Some are based entirely on the enjoyment or lack there of of a single reader and not on my own writing skill. Some are based on disappointment or a difference in taste. Some are mean spirited rants by people who have nothing better to do with their time.

None of them feel good. However, someone said, “If you want to avoid criticism, say nothing, do nothing and be nothing.” That is not what God has called us to do. He has called us to be light in the darkness. That means taking risks.

Of course, I should be sure that I do my part. I need to study my craft, practice it, edit my work fully, write, rewrite and rewrite some more. But at some point, I have to send that work out into the big wide world.

After all, words on a hard drive, don’t reach the world for Christ.

    1. No problem. Your words touched me and I hoped they would touch others as well.
